Pianist Dongmin Chen started taking piano lessons at the age of five with a renowned local pianist Yifu Yang. Under Yang’s guidance, Chen won the First Prize in Fujian Division of the “Xin’Hai Cup” National Piano Competition, and the Third Prize in the Eastern China Piano Competition. From 2003-2006, Chen won the First Prize in Haydn Sonata Competition, Second Prize in Concerto Competition, and represented the school to perform in Australia. In 2013, Chen won the First Prize in Shanghai Division and the Third Prize in the Sixth Asian Youth Music Competition, and received the Fourth Internationaler Deutscher Irmler Klavierwettbewerb Award of Best Performance.
Chen obtained his bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, master’s degree in Piano Performance from New England Conservatory, and is working on his doctoral degree in Piano Performance at University of North Texas where he studies with Professor Vladimir Viardo (The Gold Medalist of the Fourth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition).
Chen currently serves as a piano faculty member at Prime Music Institute.
