Joseph Kang began his musical journey at the age of seven with piano lessons. He continued to take lessons until he graduated high school only to immediately quit. After two years of studying computer science, he realized his true passion was for music and decided to go back to study piano at Portland State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Piano Performance.
During this time, he discovered his interest in arranging and composing music and decided he wanted to pursue further education in composition. Joseph recently graduated with his Master’s degree in Composition from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary under Dr. Joe Hardin. During his studies, he learned of his love for arranging and composing specifically in church music, especially with multiple, orchestral instruments. He has arranged and composed numerous pieces that have been performed at multiple churches in the DFW area. He would love to one day be like Bradley Knight and arrange and compose music for full orchestras. He also loves film music as well.
Joseph has been part of his church’s worship band since he was 15 years old alternating between drums, bass guitar, and piano until now. After he graduated from his Bachelor’s degree, Joseph became one of the keyboard musicians at Westside: A Jesus Church in Portland, Oregon where he played alongside Christian artists like Evan Wickham, Michael Hughes Watson, Jon Neufeld (Starfield), and Ryan Post.
Joseph currently serves as a piano faculty member at PMI.
