Maggie Williams
Early Childhood Music

Maggie comes from a musical family of vocalists and instrumentalists, and she herself began singing at age 10. Throughout middle school and high school, Maggie engaged in various school choirs, musical theatre shows, and in the Chase Oaks Church worship team. Maggie first discovered music therapy while researching for a high school science fair project about music and emotion. After working her first job in a senior residential home, she discovered her desire to help others. Maggie pursued music therapy to combine this interest with her passion for music.

In college, Maggie majored in Music Therapy where her musical training extended beyond her vocal jazz and pop background, but also to classical voice, acoustic guitar, and piano. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas Woman’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy and a minor in Applied Psychology. Throughout college, Maggie was a member of the Touchstone Honors Program, TWU Concert Choir, and served in various leadership positions in the Iota Omega chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. As part of her degree requirements, Maggie completed a six-month music therapy internship at Children’s Health and attained her CBMT credential.

Maggie’s music therapy training both in coursework and in internship consists of learning about using musical interventions to help an individual achieve social-emotional, cognitive, and motor goals. She gained experience in a variety of settings including a private music therapy practice, a memory care facility, a hospice care facility, and a pediatric hospital. During her internship, Maggie provided music therapy sessions in all units of the hospital, with patients ranging from newborn infants to the age of 21.

As a Board-Certified Music Therapist, Maggie has first-hand witnessed the healing powers of music. Maggie is passionate about music therapy to promote mental wellness as she has seen children and teens’ quality of life improve through shared musical experiences. Maggie wants every child to enjoy music and movement in a way that is unique to them and best supports their developments.

Maggie currently serves as a Music Together teacher at Prime Music Institute.
