Native of Korea, Dr. Yeohun Chun started playing piano at the age of seven and was trained in classical music. While in Korea, she won the first prize at Honam Piano Competition. After she came to the US, she achieved numerous competitions and received scholarships, including the Honorable mention prize at Georgia Music Teacher Association Competitions and the finalist selected in Brumby Concerto/Aria Competitions.
Dr. Chun has a broad musical background and performance experience. With her piano performance skills, she has widened her musical abilities by participating in multiple performances.
As an educator, she taught college group piano classes for both non-music majors and major students and taught basic music theory classes to non-major students. Especially for the college music major student’s classes, she had the experience of teaching advanced piano skills, including music reading, harmonizing, transposing, and improvising as well as playing techniques.
As a piano instructor, Dr. Chun has teaching skills that range from reading basic musical notes or scales to classical musical pieces. One of her teaching philosophies is that a teacher has to help students see their strengths and build self-confidence to be motivated to set goals. Her educational goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of music in each of her students, enabling them to play the piano with utmost enjoyment and musicianship.
After receiving a B.A. degree in Korea, Dr. Chun continued her studies and pursued an M.M. degree in Piano Performance at Georgia State University. She also received a Graduate Certificate in Performance from the University of Arkansas and completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from the University of North Texas.
Dr. Chun currently serves as a piano faculty member at Prime Music Institute.
