Dr. Ting-Wei Chang
Clarinet

Dr. Ting-Wei Chang is an accomplished clarinetist and dedicated music educator based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, currently teaching in Frisco ISD and Garland ISD. With extensive experience working with middle and high school students, she is passionate about fostering musical growth in young musicians while maintaining an active private lesson studio.

Originally from Taiwan, Dr. Chang has performed frequently as both a soloist and chamber musician across Asia and the United States. She began playing the clarinet at the age of 10 and won first prize in the Taiwan Music Competition at age 14. As a soloist, she performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra and Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2 with the Ankeng Alumni Wind Ensemble in Taiwan. Her achievements include first prize in the Tuesday Musical Competition and first prize in the James Tannenbaum Memorial Mozart Competition, as well as being a semi-finalist in the International Clarinet Association (ICA) Young Artist Competition and the Young Texas Artist Music Competition.

An active chamber musician, Dr. Chang is the Music Director and a founding member of Lumos Ensemble, a clarinet–violin–piano trio dedicated to engaging community audiences through diverse and innovative programming. She has also performed with various orchestras and ensembles in Taiwan and the United States, including the Taiwan Pro Arte Orchestra, Taipei Century Symphony Orchestra, UNT Wind Symphony, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, and Dallas Asian Wind Ensemble. Her chamber collaborations include groups such as the Lunars Woodwind Quintet, Prokofiev Quintet, and Soochow Clarinet Quartet.

In addition to her performance and teaching career, Dr. Chang regularly serves as an adjudicator for music competitions and auditions, including TMEA region auditions. She is also frequently invited by school programs to present masterclasses and clinics

Dr. Chang holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, where she studied under Dr. Kimberly Cole Luevano. She also earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Akron under Dr. Kristina Belisle Jones and a Bachelor of Music degree from Soochow University in Taiwan under Professor Pei-Yun Lin.

Dr. Chang currently serves as a clarinet faculty member at Prime Music Institute.
