Dr. Fenia Chang’s career has encompassed the classical world for her exceptionally sensitive artistry and technical finesse. Her performance has garnered high praise, earning recognition from esteemed publications such as the New York Times and the Washington Post. described as possessing "refined technical mastery and musical imagination" and hailed as "truly one of the greatest pianists of her generation" Fenia Chang has mesmerized audiences worldwide with her fine artistry, exquisite tone and attention to details.
Fenia has received prizes at many international competitions, including the first prize at Elizabeth Davis International Piano Competition in D.C.; 2nd prize at Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition, 3rd prize at Thomas Richner International Competition, Concert Artist Guild in New York, to name a few. Fenia Chang's accolades underscore her prowess as a performer. Notably, she was awarded the Composer's Prize at the Olivier Messiaen International Piano Competition in Paris, France, awards at Busoni International Competition in Italy and William Kapell International Competition in Maryland.
In addition to her active solo career, Fenia is equally at home with chamber music repertoire. She has collaborated with world-renowned musicians, including violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, Reiko Watanabe, Michael Shih, Motoi Takeda, Shu Lee; cellist Bion Tsang, Karen Basrak; pianist Brian Ganz and Evelyn Chen, among many others. Her extensive concert career has taken her to most major cities across the United States, Shanghai, Beijing in China, France, Austria, Italy, Korea, Thailand and Taiwan, gracing renowned venues such as Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center.
Beyond her achievements on the concert stage, Fenia Chang is equally recognized for her dedication to music education. As a Steinway Artist since 2007, she is currently on the piano faculty at Austin College, Dallas College Mountain View Campus, as well as a sought-after adjudicator and freelancing collaborative pianist. Her students have received top prizes at national and international competitions both in the State, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan, her native country.
Dr. Chang holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Degrees from the Juilliard School, and Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Maryland. Her distinguished teachers include pianists Abbey Simon, Russell Sherman, Jerome Lowenthal, Thomas Schumacher and Santiago Rodriguez.
Dr. Chang currently serves as an Artist-in-Residence member at Prime Music Institute.
